Flat Rock North Carolina in Henderson County. Around 1700, the Cherokee Indians began to trade deerskin with colonial settlers and used the Saluda Indian path to Charleston SC. Annual trade gatherings between both the British and Colonial Settlers with the Indians were held at a place called “flat rock.” The “flat rock” had first appeared in public records in January 1794 in the Old Buncombe County Court.
